Thanx cricketchris1944. Finally someone who share their knowledge and not their scruples.
Yes the "pocketwatch" looks very similar to the US compass.
I have not cleaned it up because im iafraid it will be destroyed as a collectable.
Is it OK to clean it ?
sebfrench76 dont worry, i wont sell the item.

Re: Found a pocketwatch on omaha
After some times, looking at my replies,it appears now that i started as a fire forest.
Sorry, indeed, but i'm the sole french here, and you really have to try to figure what D-Day beaches mean to me.
I hope you'll succeed in cleaning this watch/compass or whatever it is...

Re: Found a pocketwatch on omaha
No problems.
Its Cool to have an item from the D-day landing. But is it legal to pick items on the Omaha beach ?
When i visited the Omaha memorial the securityofficer went through my bag and found the "watch".
He asked "What is this ?"
Damn it.. now they'll take it from me.
I said "some souvenirs".
"OK.. to rememder" he said and put it back.

I think it is illegal to do any detecting on the beaches and the immediate areas behind but if you just pick up bits from the surface then I think that is ok.

The object in the centre looks like a seaman's folding knife...

Re: Found a pocketwatch on omaha
Hi,
Great find and and a good reminder of 6.6.44, It is good for all on this forum to see what has come out of the sand of those beaches and share with us. there are many of us who has got small items from the normandy beaches and shown them here and kept them in our collections,
anyone who knows Seb, would know how passionate he is about the allied forces and the way his country was freed. This is a good topic i am sure errorbug will continue to put his items on the threads for us to see, Thanks for showing it and to the other member for clearing up the confussion about the compasses.
dave.
