You are making me feel quite ancient Mike, I was attached to the Trials Unit way back in 1972, and provided comms for nearly 6 months during the
Tank Trials to see which tank replaced the Centurions, we had Leopard 1's and US M60 MBT's, and the Leopard won the day and was introduced
around 1975 from memory.
I had the chance to drive both the Leopard and the M60, so I guess that would make me one of the first in Australia to drive a Leopard tank, apart
from the assigned drivers from 1st Armoured.
Here is one of my old Tank Trials patches, worn during the trials period.
