I always wunder when seeing things like thise ....?
There must be another policy in other countries concerning metal scrap!?
I can not imagine thise hapenning in Belgium; when ever something as big as a tank or a plane would have being know by locals, it would have being stripped or dug up to being sold as metal scrap. Collecting metal scrap is profession here, with a great profit!
Always looking for Belgian Congo stuff!

It only seems practical that someone come up with the idea to attach a dozer blade to a Sherman. In this day and age I'm rather glad they decided to bury the tank then leave her out exposed to the weather. The way money talks, she would have easily fell victum to some scap metalist's torch. It's great she was saved.

That is a very interesting story.
I'm glad to see it restored instead of being cut up.

The tank in question was used post WW2 on the grounds of a very large New York State Hospital on Long Island, N.Y. It was used to plow snow and after some years when parts were hard to get, they just dug a hole and drove the tank in. It was buried with the top of the turret flush with the ground. The soil on Long Island is all glacial sand with good drainage. It was rusty but I believe it was cleaned up since its recovery about 1991 or so. It was in a Museum in Southhold, L.I., N.Y but the American Armor Museum has since packed up and moved to (I think) North Carolina.
The Gun was not in the tank when it was used as a snow plow.

Looks pretty cool. I bet when they opened up that tin can - the inside was still top shape!
