    the wreck was salvaged some years ago, and has been rebuilt to static display standard there was a program about it on discovery

    hi guys it has defiantaly been recovered (unfounatly!!) and possible restored the bullet holes are from either hunters or vandles i remember reading somewhere not combat. great pictures sturmhunter thank for sharing!

    Thanks for updating! They did a nice job there. Perhaps we shall see it at an airshow sometime.

    The reason that P-38 was there for so long is that it was on either Kiska, or Attu Island. Both belong to the Aleutian chain and were occupied by the Japanese military for a while. Both islands are very remote and owned by the gov/mil. Also, I prefer a static display as it is a shame to restore them to flying condition and then have them crash. Look how many warbirds each year crash. What a waste. Danny

    This aircraft is on static display after being restored by volunteers and is on display in front of the Base Ops building at Eileson AFB, Anchorage AK,
