Please help identify this object.
Found this military object where training exercises had been performed in the 1940's
I have no idea what it is but i did think it might be some type of american trip wire system...but just guessing wildly

only marking is a number 2
the bullet .36-06 is there for size reference

for those that dont know this is called a M1A1 pressure firing device, a grenade goes on the end of it.
