If I am not mistaken, the Russian navy refers to their ships as "he".

Glad you enjoyed that. There are of course other theories .One is that sailors think of the ships as a females much like their own mothers who took care of them. That one actually makes more sense to me.

The US Navy Sub on display at Pearl Harbor is the USS Bowfin (SS-287). If you look carefully you can see the USS Arizona Memorial in the background. The Bowfin is in the water, I'm unsure of the condition of the hull below the waterline, interior is still very nice. I've attached a few photos I took while on Vacation back in Fall 2008.

In Redondo Beach, California there was a WWII U.S. Navy submarine on display for a number of years back in the 1970's. I think it was moved to Pearl Harbor and put on display in the water (saw it in 1991). Unfortunately, this appears to have been a mistake as the salt water had been eating away at the metal on the outside, the inside looked fine. I wonder if they got smart and placed it in a dry exhibit area (anyone know?).

i went to see this u boat in the flesh about 10 years ago and what an awesome sight it was ,it was a time capsule of artifacts if i remember it was never classed as a war grave as no sailors lost there lives
