    I have been thinking and while I still think it may be a flare of some sort I think the delivery system may have been by mortar. what is the diametre? This will at least give an idea if it matches a tube

    Very close Soldierblu. It think it's a part of a M19A1 Flare Signal grenade and not a paralume! :P I found this link below a couple of minutes ago:
