Most interesting site. So there was no such thing as a 20mm Bofors?

Not quite ready to abandon Dad's story. He even built training aids (broomsticks!) for the 20mm Bofors, and he wasn't the type to be easily confused.

I once showed him a 40mm casing I picked up when I was a kid and he expalined that the 20mm Bofors was very much smaller.

Pat,
The term "Bofors" probably became generic to any Anti-Aircraft light to medium gun ...
(Very similar to people reffering to vacuums as "hoovers").

Your father probably called the 20mm guns bofors purely because they were AA associated ..

Here is a Navy ammo can which held 4 four round chargers and the gun.

looks like the crew of that bofors gun were kept busy with a firing rate of 130 rounds per second !!

and the b&w photos from your friend look very authentic ! That 20mm looks to be a great piece of kit against ground targets , do they still use these today ?

Hi Al, no the Polsten is now part of the history books.

There was also a quad A/A gun mounted with four of these.

Hello Gents,

My name is Jim Lobaza in the US doing Polish airborne exile forces as my living WW2 history impression. I'm currently in the process of collecting any data on the Polsten 20mm airborne mount. I'm hoping to build a full scale replica of the airborne mount in the near future. If anybody has any info on this platform with focusing on dimensions and measurements, I would love to hear from you. Looking at the full scale replica's on this site, one could only imagine the effects of a great piece of history would have on the airborne impression.
