Yep its a Bofors round a very common weapon during WW2, these were designed in Sweden, and based on the Vickers Navel QF 2 pounder "Pom, Pom" anti aircraft system, the Bofors was also built under licence in both Britain and all the U. S. A. The Royal ordnance did think of converting this weapon back to imperial calibre once again, however this was not pursued and so remained designated 40mm. A similar thing was done with the Royal Armoured Corps Czechoslovakian designed Besa Machine gun this was chambered for the German 7.92 round, and so when it was built and used in the U.K. the metric calibre was retained.
