anyone know what this is?

Article about: by Wagriff From the size and design, almost certainly meant to be used as a watch fob. How big is the coin used as a scale? I don't understand Monopoly money. Stewy

You might have more luck in the WW1 forum. Stewy
@ Glen. I think you might be on the right lines.

someone from Lakeside traders said it was a tinnie, but it is double sided and hung from something- as per the ring attached. (which appears to be original) There was no place for it to have had a pin attached.

Not a tinnie. As a rule back then if it was to be hung on a chain/necklace, it was more associated with women. Men wouldn't wear that sort of thing (I'm not being chauvinistic). It's not designed for a ribbon suspension, eyelet's too small. Ergo, for a necklace IMO. Stewy

It has some similarities to a mine clearance medal, just due to the hammers in the centre. Stewy

Definitely mining-related, not just because of the crossed hammers, but also for the presence of the traditional miners' greeting "Glück auf!".

The longer, rhymed quote on the reverse side is from Friedrich Schiller's famous poem "Das Lied von der Glocke ".

Just realised what I said. I should've said mine rescue, not clearance. Thanks for the info Andreas. Stewy
