someone from Lakeside traders said it was a tinnie, but it is double sided and hung from something- as per the ring attached. (which appears to be original) There was no place for it to have had a pin attached.

Not a tinnie. As a rule back then if it was to be hung on a chain/necklace, it was more associated with women. Men wouldn't wear that sort of thing (I'm not being chauvinistic). It's not designed for a ribbon suspension, eyelet's too small. Ergo, for a necklace IMO. Stewy

Definitely mining-related, not just because of the crossed hammers, but also for the presence of the traditional miners' greeting "Glück auf!".

The longer, rhymed quote on the reverse side is from Friedrich Schiller's famous poem "Das Lied von der Glocke ".
