    It's a Farewell-Gift for "The departing Comrade", by his fellow Unteroffiziere, Infanterie Regt.17...
    The word "Scheidenden" could also translate to "Discharging"...

    Thanks!! Is the 8/JR17, 8th Company/ Jager Regiment 17? I assume Uffz (is Unteroffiziere) But what is Derg or Uerg. ? Is that his name?

    I believe the "Verg." stands for "Vergangener", meaning "Former" Unteroffiziere of the unit...Basically explained, it's from the Unit's Non-Commisioned Officer's Association...Nice Piece, Friend...

    Beg to differ, Glenn: It's Unteroffizier-Vereinigung, actually.

    (Which, of course, still means "NCO Association".)
