Heres one of my favorite pieces in my collection as far as figures go - A heroic WWI soldier sculpture reflecting a WWI Wehrmacht soldier wearing a M-16 helmet and holding a broken sword with the inscription "Dies Illa"(Those Days") along with holding up his right arm swearing an oath. This reflects the loss of WWI but yet the allegiance to Germany it is a small replica(approx 16") of the original large sculpture/ kyffhauser Kriegerdenkmal in Arten. The sculptor is " Paul Juckoff-Skopau" who also did large monuments of Bismark ,Scharnhorst etc and exhibited in the Great Berlin exhibitions on 1904,1907 & 1910.

Beautiful sculpture! Can you post a closer shot of the face/head of the figure? The bronze statuary from the post WWI period is really striking!

    Hi,
What a lovely bronze and very poignant for the time, Not easy to make at the best of times. Is it a one off copy ?, I only made one small bronze for the Tate St Ives, i would not like to make a large one thats for sure. It looks like a nice collection you have.

Dave - thanks - I really dont know how many were contracted at the time although I have seen one that was somewhat larger than mine.
