I think this is a modern fake. The eagle dosnt look like any Third Reich eagle I am familiar with, and any object of this type, especially with SS on it, should be regarded with great suspicion.
Welcome to the forum.
No, no, heer eagle and SS marking, it's a Mickey Mouse item.
thanks for the quick reply. The box was part of a private estate collection that was sold at a blind auction by the grand daughter of the soldier that owned the piece. The entire collection was purchased by a single buyer who then sold it off piece by piece. The box has significant wear, and is consistent with similar boxes produced in poland at the time of the war. None of the polish boxes that Ive been able to find have any markings on the at all. The hinges and inner wood all look the same in the polish boxes.
Maybe a old war time polish item that has been tarted up?
As a Ex servicemen with PTSD, I see this quote in a different context
"Enjoy the war, as the peace will be unbearable"
Hi, welcome to the forum.
This is something very common, fakers usually pick something out of period.
For example, the box. Its looks old, maybe even wartime. Then they "pimp it" a bit.
We all have been fooled by it, while collecting.
Study a lot, do your homework and if still uncertain, just ask here in the forum.
