Gestapo enamel sign
Hello everybody
Here is my favourite item of my collection
This enamel sign was found 30 years ago in the attic of my grandmother in Saales in Alsace (France)
It is a village situated in the limit between Alsace and Vosges and, as during WW2 ,Alsace was annexed to the 3rd Reich, it was the boundary between Germany and France. So it explain why it's written "grenzpolizeiposten"
Dimensions are 45x30cm

rare sign to have nearly undamaged.

Very nice. Makes you wonder how many more Third Reich era signs are hidden away or forgotten throughout Europe.

Any idea why your grandmother would have wanted to keep something like this? In the immediate postwar period, anything even remotely related to the Gestapo would have been the last thing you'd want found in your home...seems rather bizarre, although I like the sign personally...
cheers, Glenn

No idea why it was kept after the war. On the back side there was some concrete, and fortunately I succeded to remove it without difficulties.
When she was still alive, my grandmother showed me the house on which it was fixed. Very interesting history.
