Horst, bringing this one back up.. love these glass steins! I think in some cases the fanciest versions of these were typically bought by officers and the porcelain colorful versions by enlisted.. oh, by the way the Prussian Garde piece is not simple molded glass as it is cut glass with all the flat sides and star on the base being hand cut! Beautiful! Best, Kevin.

Thanks for the comments and observations - have to agree with them. Really like the glass early steins as noted not often seen.

The lids are made of pewter NOT silver.
Pewter is silver colored only.

I like both of those glass steins. Very unique being made of glass.
I think they would display well and still be functional.

Heres another glass stein which I posted sometime ago but relates to this topic also - It reflects a Bavarian Raupenhelm and also reflects the owners name and Ludwig II cypher 1864 -1886 on the silver colored(pewter) lid.
