I'm of the opinion that this piece is not of the Third Reich era also...
It does compliment the tassle though.....

I wonder if someone could say why this is a fake? I don't know much at all about desk eagles but if I run across one I'd like to have some information as to what to look for and what to avoid when buying a piece like this

I agree with my colleagues. It is not of the quality or artistic level of what one sees from the epoch. There are many examples of authentic items of this typeby Duzig
on this site and elsewhere. I think I can recall these offered as reproductions in the last twenty or so years.
