The quality would point to being period, but it's hard to say if the marble base is original to the piece. You do get alot of pieces married these days.Hope this helps

At first glance it looks very good but after looking at it a while there are some red flags i.e. looks very new ,in addition these type of items usually had a organization noted like WHW, Mutter und Kind, NSV etc this one dosent.
    I would pass -

Please enlighten us what you mean by looks new? The material metal looks like any other period piece that i have seen and the cast is perfect i would disagree!

New can mean many things i.e. modern, recent etc - this type of metal usually shows signs of aging which is the opposite of new one should note that these period items reflect 60+ years of aging /wear - have enclosed a period item that reflects what I mean by aging/period. Hope this enlightens new-

Hi' HORST,Yes i agree with what your saying, but the item in question is a plaque not a desk piece which would be handled a great deal more.as i said before the base could have been replaced the normal base for this type of plaque is black stained wood.

Plaque, desk piece, etc this type of metal over 60+ years of age usually reflects some degree of aging unless it was stored in a vacuum. Have enclosed a plaque with the type of 60+ years of aging I am making reference to.

At the end it is up to each individuals personnal preference for me I would pass on the piece shown.

Looks like a married up piece, marble looks more like granite counter top of new manufacture and not marble of the period and its top and bottom. I would pass on this.
