Frankly, this is most likely a period cigarette case that has had the SS emblem added to it post-war.

The age on the sheild in no way matches the case....looks as though it has been hammered into the case many years later....

I actually like it, I would take it to a jeweller and ask that he determine the metallurgy or plating of the case as opposed to that of the emblem ( alot of post-war alloys or silver / nickel grades were simply not used ) Having said that a friend of my Father's was a Das Reich veteran and he had a beautiful cigar case "inlaid" with his Iron Cross, Totenkopf and Close-combat bar post-war (in the late fifties) I would still give my back teeth for that case.

I have seen these cases over the years at the Max Show and SoS Show. The cigarette cases always turn out to be original but the emblem was added and in some cases they are even engraved. Many years ago a bunch of these surfaced on E-Bay along with many period watches that were engraved to different SS Men and thier SS units. The watches were period but not the engraving. That was before they banned German WW-2 items. This is just my opinion of what I have encountered over the years. Thank you for posting it. Best Wishes Don Boyle
