Thank you everyone for the feedback! Sounds like it's best to pass on this one. If anyone can recommend where to buy authentic steins I would appreciate it!

Another case of buy the story not the item.....Instead of the other way around? Plus the added engraving is not only piss poor, the shading on the skull appears to have been done with a Dremel. Not for me I'm afraid.

Thank you again everyone. I'll hang around this forum and keep checking back so I learn more and also hopefully find a few good steins. =)

Something like what was posted in this thread is ideal:

I'm not sure if it's ok, but another thread posted a link to the Gary Kirsner stein auctions which seem good too.

I am sure the vast majority of TR material on the internet auction sites like those listed with "Live Auctioneers Antiques Auctions" are aged fakes and alterd pieces like the stein in this thread. Internet auctions are not good places to buy military.

I agree with Frundsberg.....a nice old 19th century stein ruined by an thieving idiot engraving a crude wrong way facing "SS" skull and other rubbish..... They could just as easily picked up a 1920's or 30's pewter stein if they intended to do this-but they chose a nice early 1800's lidded stein and destroyed it forever.

Probably added some Anti-Semitic nonsense to go with the spurious SS TK engraving
