This was brought into my wife’s shop by one of her customers (unfortunately she wants it back!). It was brought back by a British soldier at the end of the war and given to his sister. It’s not currently known where it was picked up (there are a number of letters between brother and sister that the family still have which might identify exactly where), although it is known that he fought through France and into Germany and did carry it with him for a while.
The sash is about 10 1/2” (26.5cm) in width and about 6’ long, however it has clearly been cut at one end quite crudely with a knife so I am unsure as to how long it was originally. The tassels appear to be made from wire. There are traces of wax (probably from a candle).
Can anybody let me know what it is (or was before it was cut)
Many thanks
