Great to see it has all been donated to a museum where his service history can be appreciated by all and especially nice to see the commendation letter signed by Paddy Mayne .

Always a little further : it may be
Beyond that last blue mountain barred with snow
Across that angry or that glimmering sea...

Also glad its being kept together and given to a museum. Thats a mean looking knife lying at the front of the picture of the hamper's contents aswell.

Really nice to see this is going on display. Great story too. I had a family friend of my grandfathers who was ex LRDG during the war. I have a few items of his and his family have his war diary which they are going to let me have to transcribe.
I wish these reporters would do a little bit more basic research..note the picture of the beret and the caption "SAS".."Secret Air Service"..hmmm!

The stabby thing's a Scottish Dirk.

Ned , it does not look to be a Scottish dirk, more like a tribal knife from Northern India or North East Burma, John.

That is one heck of a hamper!
Three nice blades there. SA and a FS.
That doesnt look like no dirk, that Ive ever seen.
More of a tribal dagger, as mentioned, or some such thing.

'Secret' Air Service. No no, dont do the least amount of research, you 'anker!

Looking at it again you're probably right. It bears more than a passing resemblance to a Pisau knife from Malaya. I know that the SAS were there in the emergency as my father served with them when some were seconded to the XII Royal Lancers for recon purposes, and the knife makes sense in that respect.

    Regards, Ned.
