Car boot discovery - Help identifying

Hi guys

Well I paid a visit to my local 'indoor' carboot this moring and got this for £3 ! I am hoping the 41 denotes the year. Other than than I am stumped as to what type of helmet it is.

Can anyone help ??

Yep I'm going to go with the civilian idea. I think it is the kind of helmet that was issued to the Bevin boys (miners) and the like. Yes I think the 41 is the date.
