Hi all
Three finds today that I wanted to share with you. Just books this time but nice ones Not bad for a quid a piece
'The Battle of Britain', 'National Service (1939)', 'The Victory Book'
First up 'The Victory Book'. Basically a small volume summary of WW2 with lots of unusual pictures and LOADS of propaganda still evident. Can't find a publish date in it but must have been shortly after the war judging by the contents. In superb condition
Now a small booklet on 'National Service'. Details all the criteria for joining the armed services and written in 1939. It even still has the original application letter in the middle. DaveJB will surely remember this little book as he must have filled one in shortly before the war when he was in his twenties......
And finally a great little find in amongst some old magazines. Just goes to show it's worth rooting through crap at car boots as you never know where the next thing will come from.
Seems to be a promotional magazine for 'The Battle of Britain' film. Contains details about how they made the film and who was in it, along with photographs of lots of 'The few' and even one of Adolf Galland on a hunting trip with some of his old RAF adversaries after the war !
One thing this magazine has shown me.....something I never knew. I always assumed the film of the massed ranks of He-111s was a bit of trickery with one plane copied over and over. However, turns out they had an entire FLEET of HE-111s on loan from the Spanish airforce who still had them as an operational group in the 60s ! Amazing.
Not bad for £3.....not bad at all
Cheers
