RELIC CONDITION mortor round ??
LOL !!! Good ol' mortars........damn things turn up everywhere !
Oh, and it's an American 81mm
Cool! Thanks, Steve.
Should I assume WWII vintage?
I'm hoping to find some markings on it.
With that amount of rust I reckon it's a safe bet it's WW2. Most of the markings were stencilled on so you will be lucky to find anything. Your best bet is the fins which may have a date embossed on them somewhere. Time to get out the home made electrolysis kit me thinks !
Joe you may well have a live round there mate,no pin mark on the primer, internal filling, top cap missing, or it could be a drill round but the primer could still be active by the look of it,this might be why someone's disposed of it,not thinking it becomes someone else's problem, irresponsible in the extreme, some people don't give a flying s#it about safety
I thought so, Dave....
I assume I dispose of it? If so, what is the best way?
While we've never had a mortar round explode on us... we have accidentally put propane tanks and other canisters under pressure into our grinder. Scary!
