The customer who gave me the Iwo Jima Japanese T90 helmet came in again this past weekend and let me borrow his father-in-law's framed medal grouping! While he let me keep the Japanese helmet, he wants me to share the medal grouping with my students and then return it.

I'm pretty happy about this. It only adds more evidence nailing the helmet down as a Iwo Jima battlefield pickup!

I just read through this entire thread and I gotta say incredible what folks will throw away. I pick up my items mostly at auctions. I usually sell a few items to recoup my money spent and keep a few that really interest me. I also got to commend you on doing the right thing like contacting folks to try and get their items back to them. You sir are a real stand up guy! Last but not least I need to find a job working for a local trash company!!!

Thanks for taking the time to read through the thread, and thanks for the kind response! I do my best to return things, but it's not always possible. I wish I could return the modern bronze star that I found...

Unfortunately, this is our slow season because of the weather. I'm sure things will come in during the warmer months, and I will be sure to post when they do!

Welcome to the forum, by the way!

Our business tends to slow down during the winter. To my surprise, this came in today... No back story behind it, it was just waiting for me when I finished teaching.

The bayonet itself is marked: U.S. M4 CONETTA

The scabbard is marked: USM8A1 V.P. CO. It also has a VP logo with 34 under it...

Nice bayonet. It is from the 1960's or 70's for the M-16 rifle,
or possibly earlier - for the M1 Carbine - but I'm not sure
just when plastic grip panels came into use.

Try and see if it will fit.........!
    Regards,

    Steve.

    Cool !

It is from the 1950's or early 1960's then. Again, not sure when the
M1 Carbine was phased out of service - mid 1960's I think.........

I looked it up - the plastic grip M4 was available starting in 1954.
    Regards,

    Steve.
