I like to keep up with fashion to an extent. And I only use my phone as a phone. Not to go on FB. Thats what my laptop is for. Though I am the only one that doesent fall asleep in history. Though the vikings can be very exhausting! *lol*

I wish my teacher would be more hands on.

    Cheers, Pat

Don't worry Pat... Based on what we've seen from you on this forum, I doubt you fall into the category of the type of student we're talking about!

I'm 25... I find myself texting a lot, especially to my girlfriend. Obviously I am on WRF a lot... I still play videogames... I'm not that far removed from my students.

It's the kids that think that they will become something just without working hard just by being a punk and emulating Jackass/ Rob Dyrdek, or their favorite rapper, or their favorite celeb or athlete that bothers me.

I agree completely. In the six years I've been out of high school, the decline in work ethic and respect is just staggering - and it was horrid when I left. Much respect to you for trying to stem the tide, though, it is definitely an uphill battle.

That being said, I love this thread. Much better stuff than what I pull from the Salvation Army. Makes me shudder to think what has gone in the trash today

An older gentleman dropped off this photo for me today. A quick google search tells me that it's the USS Aquarius at Pavuvu.

Freaking me out with all these great finds.........!

Joe, WWII PH's were issued up until the Vietnam War, however, I believe that these
are likely are WWII manufactured sets. They should have what is called a
'slot brooch' - the riboons go through slots at the top of the pin plates.
There should also be thread sewn onto the sides of these plates
    to hold the ribbons on.

The newer type have a 'crimp brooch' where the ribbons are pressed onto
a pin-back bar attachment, and the ribbons are not sewn.
Here are better pics of the two medals. I do believe they fit the criteria you listed for being WWII vintage

WWII type slot brooches ! - I can't imagine why anyone
would have tossed these medals away.

A Silver Star lapel device and ribbon bar can be found
quite easily on ebay, if you wanted to replace
    the damaged one.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

No sir, I will keep it as is! I would like to add a ribbon bar for it!

I wish these medals could talk! If they were earned by the same person, I'm sure they would have quite a story to tell!

    Garbage find of the day!

German newspaper is dated July 20, 1944. I can't read a single thing on it... but the back seems to have a picture of SS panzergrenadiers digging a trench, and Knights Cross awardees.

Other newspaper is dated March 26, 1918.

I have a few more to dig thru... standby!

Hi Joe, nice historical date on the Völkischer Beobachter. Headline is "Heavy Fighting on all Fronts".

    Cheers, Ade.
