I've posted this elsewhere, but I thought you guys following this thread would be interested too!

We have been working to restore the beaded M40 that was damaged by our garbage grinder. We were able to save the original paint and parts of the decals hiding under the bogus black paint. This is our progress so far:

This just came in with an OD green duffle bag with white cloth draw strings. The duffle bag still has a tag on them from when the soldier flew on American Airlines wayyyy back when.

Both are extremely dirty and STINKY.

    Can someone ID the pin?
I asked around at a Dutch forum and the answer is as follows:

    TIOH - Heraldry - 77th Sustainment Brigade

    Cheers,

These came in today and over this past weekend!

Front seam, swivel bale - heat stamp reads: 1071B

This one breaks my heart... the interior was left unpainted... it was a luftschutz in a previous life. Has it's original chin strap, but crap-tastic plastic cherry red paint job and Japanese made plastic liner band.

    It's maker marked EF64. Batch marking 20432.

Finally, my girlfriend modeling the latest fall fashion/ doing her General Patton impression.

I believe it to be a post Vietnam m1 helmet liner

Any vacancies at your firm gizmo8z?

It would be worth the aggro of emigrating etc just to get the chance of picking up stuff there!

Keep up the good work mate.

    Regards etc

Thanks for the kind words! No positions available, sorry! Maybe once the spring and summer roll around again... :P

Here's a picture of the inside of the liner I found. It mates nicely with the newer m1 steel pot I found earlier!

    Hi Nick,

I'm terribly sorry that I missed your post!

Here are some pics of the interior of the helmet... Looks like the interior is in good shape and the chinstrap is original... breaks my heart!

    M. Berger Company. Made in Japan

Crappy plastic split pins on the outside...

Looks like they used the original split pins to attach the chin strap...

Kind of cool in a very messed up kind of way. I'm glad you liked it.

Unfortunately, our office manager has this helmet now. She's going to wear it if she ever decides to ride motorcycles again...
