Lucky you! Nice stuff, shame about the helmet though.
You're right... I'm not convinced that the helmet is WW2 vintage. I'll have to let this helmet go for really cheap... it'll make a nice restoration project for someone.

If GIs took it home it would be in peices. I was talking to a vet a month ago and he told me when he was mustard out of the army. There were 8 guys that had different peices of a MG. After they went through one guy collect all other parts and would have a MG at home... If GIs didnt get hold oof it it scrap metal. That happen alot after the war. Things were scares post VE day
:wow: Imagine thousands of GIs meeting up after the war with a few lbs of rail gun each... it would be a mind blowing effort to piece it back together. :P

I don't think that any GI took significant pieces of Dora home... it weighed 1200 tons (2,645,547 lbs).

In any case, if that really is Dora or Gustaw in the picture and it's an original, then it's quite a rare photo.

A buddy of mine has a picture of his uncle with what I think is the Greta in Italy or some other rail gun. I'll ask him if I can post it here.

    Nice finds yet again Joe!

Negative. Most of them are from 1942 and 1943. However, there is one issue from 1944 and one from 1945. There is also a copy of "Our Navy" from 1944... I forgot to post a picture of it. Oops!
