Default Gasmasks and arm band carboot find - July 2012

    Hi all

Not much happening at the carboot for a few weeks, nothing amazing to report, just the normal books and magazines and stuff.

Anyway, last week I was rooting through the boxes from one of the house clearance guys and was very excited when I spotted a tell tale white canvas, square bag. I opened it up and, sure enough, inside was a nice WW2 era civilian gasmask. Only problem was that the mask itself had been melted by something so only half of it was left. The stamp on it reads 1938

There was another canvas bag in the box but I didn't open that, just picked up the box itself and asked how much. After a bit of bartering we agreed on £3 for the contents of the box. As I walked down the next aisle, I had a look in the other canvas bag and found a COMPLETE gas mask !! It looks a bit modern but I am no expert on these things so an ID would be great please. The mask itself is in pristine condition with no deterioration of any of the rubber. Over to you Danny !!!

And in the bottom of the bag with this gasmask, a 'Civil Defence Corps Welfare' arm band. Again, not sure what era so any help would be greatly appreciated. The arm band is in immaculate condition.....not a mark on it

So....turns out to be a good deal for 3 quid

Hi Steve - That is a super CD armband.........

I believe the second mask is Civil as well. It appears to be
missing it's little rubber 'exhaust tube' above the canister.

My mask is marked 1941 and has a makers initials:

Sorry I've taken so long to reply to this thread Steve, the army is keeping me very busy The second mask you have shown is a variation of the Civilian Duty/Special Services Respirator as has been said. To be specific, its a post war version, more than likely intended for industrial use. The main differences being the head harness, filter, and the carrier. Nice little haul of items

    Thanks

    Danny
