Hello-it's an Austro-Hungarian M1888 bayo without the catch for fitting on the rifle-the rings and chain are not original to it. It was used on the A-H Mannlicher M1886/88 model rifles-the diameter of the muzzle ring is 17.5mm for the 1886 and 16.3mm for the 1888 bayos for the rifles.
thank you so much Lithgow
The numbers on one side of the crossguard match the serial number of the rifle it was matched with, the other 2 sets of numbers on the other side are the regiment the rifle and bayonet were issued to and the 'rack number' used for storage identification in the unit itself.
'6151F' Weapon serial number,' LJ2' Regt and '629' rack number.
