Article about: So... it's been a while since my last post. Here's something for your attention; any ideas from what this could be?

Well these Junks have been bugging me for ages now.
But i think i have finally found a match. The are almost sure to be the idler mounts from a PzKpfW iv or a variant of, here are some pics that i think you will see confirm it.

    Mate, you are the best!

I'll try to find out what the Moldavian peasants were doing with it.

Thanks, It was my pleasure. I like a good challenge and tanks are my favourite thing. What took me so long to find it is that it seems to be a pattern only used of the iv Ausf H only and maybe only for a short time in the very late ones. If you look at any other mark of PZ iv or variant the idler mount is very slightly different.

I think I might have identified another other part too. I think it holds the suspension arms and bearings also for a Pzkfpw iv. It is bolted to the underside of the hull and has armoured covers bolted either side to act as deflectors to stop the tank getting hooked up on things. If the bit of plate it is still attached to is around 10mm thick then it can only be from the hull bottom.

I can’t find a good picture but the ones below should give you the idea. You can see the row of 6 bolts holding it to the hull and you can just about make out the 4 bolts for the armour covers that run directly into the part you have.

The mussel brake as you know is from a 75mm and from the Kwk 40/L48 mounted on the Mid to late Ausf G's and early Ausf H.

I would suggest your Moldavian peasants friends either know the location of a completely destroyed PZ iv early Ausf H or someone has cut one up for scrap. The idler mount looks like some has had a sledgehammer on it so my guess is the vehicle was cut up for scrap. Might be worth going back and seeing what else you can find.
