    A old box of what I believe to be wartime German Candles?

    As per usual, a story came with the Candles... these were "found" in a U-Boat Base in France

    I can't remember where they came from or how I acquired them... just remember them as "U-Boat Candles".

    They are all stuck together now.

    So, any ideas my friends?...

    Kind of looks like just an old box of candles(2 different kinds?). Don't see a military or U-boat connection.

    The factory that made them was founded in 1871 and went out of business in 1952.

    The D.R.P./D.R.G.M markings mean that the candles were patented at some time during the Imperial through Third Reich eras.

    (The USP of the product being that the patented shape of the candles' lower end guaranteed a secure and upright fit in candle holders. It's described on the box.)

    Otherwise, not much to say about them. They are simply old candles without any specific military connection.

    The small letters "D.R.P./D.R.G.M." are Patent wartime numbers (?) or so I was told??

    No actual connection, other than the old wives tale that I remember, but I know these letters were discontinued after the war.

    Hopefully they will be used during the next blackout

    Not the actual patent numbers and not just wartime, although both acronyms were used throughout both world wars: D.R.P. was in use from 1877 to 1945, D.R.G.M. from 1891 to 1945.

    D.R.P. = Deutsches Reichspatent , i.e. a patent
    D.R.G.M. = Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster, i.e. a registered design

    No they don't.. I tried to light them under water, but it didn't work out

    They're all stuck together now and I can't be bothered to pull them apart.

    They're going back under the sink for ever and a day...
