unknown gearbox

here I have a old gearbox I found in a barn with other ww2 items
according to an other forum this must be wartime
I like to know for what car this is

Looks to me like a regular 3 speed manual transmission from the 1930 - 50 period.
What exactly it came out of ..... thats the hard part.
