Unknown use ww2 leather bound box?

Hi All

Ive had this for years and never really given it much tought as I just use it to store some of my old military bumf in. Can anyone tell me what it might be for please? I suspect its ww2 though may be ww1, Its WD arrow marked and lined in steel. Grenade box maybe?

Hi Reg, I have one too, but well worn and oily, but it is at my Dad's. Came from my late Uncle's estate and was used as a tool bag, which I have always thought was it's original purpose, but I cannot say for sure?

Lol, cheers Ade, that makes sense. This is an heirloom too, its apparently what my grandad used to keep his white fivers in. :-)
