Vehicle part identification help

Spotter,do you know why it's got M6 on the I.D plate? I'm curious,regards Stewy

I dont know for sure, i would assume its the scope model/part number ,hopefully someone else will know 100%

Hi guys

M6 was purely the designated code for the type of periscope. It bore no relation to any other M6 codes designating any other form of military hardware.

The M6 Periscope was used on a series of World War II era American made tanks (which were also used by the British).

The M3A3 Stuart Tank produced by the American Car and Foundry from 1942 to 1943 had four of these mounted, for the driver, commander, etc.

The M5A1 Stuart Tank also had several of these mounted.

The M18 Tank had two of these mounted for the driver and assistant. The M18 was produced by the Buick Motors division of General Motors.

This came from a great uncle who served as a tank driver in
8th Army in Africa,he then took part in the D-Day invasions. Where he aquired it from i don't know. Colour suggests Europe,wouldn't you say? Appreciate the info/help folks. Stewy S.
