Rich, nice cutlass !, do you know any details of its use, by which formations, when it was in use (from and untill). Certain German Navy formations used a similiar style cutlass/bayonet in WW1, the " Marine-seitengewehr model 19" (Entermesser fur Torpedo-bootsbesatzungen), being just over 23" in length contained in a leather or later on in the war a metal scabbard.
    Prost ! Steve.

Very interesting to see what I suspect is a rare weapon.

I have found a few details in a book about Austro Hungarian edged weapons.

This pattern of cutlass or 'Bordsabel' was approved in March 1858 with a contract for 1000 going to Franz Jung in 1859 although there are some examples stamped 1858.

Most were made with steel hilts although there is also a version in brass.

More orders followed in the 1860s and the name was changed to 'Entersabel' in 1877.

Originally were not issued with scabbards - these were issued in 1870.

    Withdrawn from service in 1904.

The Austrian Navy operated mainly in the Adriatic and was disbanded in 1918 when Austria lost access to the sea at the end of WW1.

Hope that is of some interest.

    Regards

    Richie
