Imperial Austrian Belt Buckles
Article about: I have two Austrian Belt Buckles in my collection, one is steel (#1) and one is brass (#2). They are similar but not the same (check the crest and the crown). I can’t find much information o

Since I didn't get any response to this posting, I took them to a local show, and a guy said that they look OK, and that they are both WW1 and that that the brass one is an officer belt buckle, dose that sound right?

Hello there,
Unfortunately, many well-made copies/fakes of these buckles are on the market, including the ones with removable eagles. Your brass buckle looks to be original, but the steel one is probably a copy. Original steel buckles had green paint on them.

Georg! your No 1 buckle is a fake (produced in hungary, novadays)
but the other one is very nice.
