This is kind of an odd duck. It has been in my family for many years, just not sure how it got there. One of my great-cousins (cousin twice removed?) said she had a WWI Infantry manual that had been in the family for quite a while and wanted to know if I would like it. I am not one to turn down anything free, so of course I said yes. Here is the title page from the manual:

I put the book on my shelf and didn't really think to much about it. Then one day, I remembered it had a name in it so I thought I would try and research the vet. I was a bit surprised to see that it had come from an Aero Squadron.

After looking at the name and squadron, the cobwebs in my brain finally cleared and I thought I recognized the name. After a quick internet check, yep, sure enough, Frank Tyndall is the aviator that Tyndall Air Force base is named after!

Tyndall had 4 confirmed kills during the war and was killed while test flying an aircraft in 1930. He was awarded a Silver Star for his service.

Noone knows where the manual came from, it sure would be nice to find out that he was a relative!

Steve, Thanks for the kind words. It just goes to show you, never turn anything away!

Tom, Thanks for the census info! Unfortunetly none of those names pop up instantly as part of our family, so I will have to do some genealogical research. Back to the library!

    Erick-

I ran the name through the Veterans Affairs gravesite locator & came up with two Frank B's:

    1) TYNDALL, FRANK B JR
    DATE OF DEATH: 12/04/1928
BURIED AT: SECTION J SITE 532
    HAMPTON NATIONAL CEMETERY
CEMETERY ROAD AT MARSHALL AVENUE HAMPTON, VA 23669
    (757) 723-7104
SON (MINOR CHILD) OF B, FRANK TYL
    1ST/LT US ARMY

    2) TYNDALL, FRANK B
    1ST LT AIR CORPS, USA
    DATE OF DEATH: 07/16/1930
BURIED AT: SECTION 7 SITE 9040
    ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY
    C/O DIRECTOR ARLINGTON, VA 22211
    (703) 607-8000

I think #2 is our guy. The curious thing about #1 is it states he's the son of Frank B Tyndall!
