I just love the story of this pilot,show how Americans are.
Just like in France many kids in ww2 remenber US GIs giving them candy something that stay with them all their life.
I got talking to an old German guy in a pub about a mile away from Tempelhof airport, he was a kid when the Berlin airlift was on, he was telling me word of the candybomber spread like wildfire and there were even kids from the Russian sector hanging around Tempelhof.
The old guy said he never actually got any air dropped candy or chocolate, but just the thought of a chance of getting some was exciting. Gail Halvorsen sure did cheer a lot of kids up!...
It's a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.
