Early french pilots licence

Awarded to: Capitaine Gilbert Casse. Dated 3 March 1911.

I have found an online site that states:

Les vingt premiers pilotes brevetés militaires:
7. Cne Gilbert Félix Brutus Casse (Génie) - breveté le 2 mai 1911.

There is also a postcard with the following caption:
Capitaine Gilbert Félix Casse (Génie)
Brevet de l'Aéroclub de France n° 415 en date du 3 mars 1911 - Brevet de pilote militaire n° 7 en date du 2 mai 1911 - Commandant l'école de Pau de octobre 1911 à mars 1914 - Carte postale d'époque.

I presume that he was the seventh member of the Armée de l'Air?

Very nice document and yes I beleive you are correct that he was the 7th French Military Aviator. And don't worry this section takes a while to get responses every now and then.

mjw...welcome. As Gary said, sometimes it takes a while for answers as the section is fairly new compared to the other sections of the forum. Also, the number of views you see also include guests and those who just stumble across the forum in a net search. It doesn't mean that all of the members who looked at it are members who regularly post. In addition, I am grateful that when someone posts a question, that we don't get flooded with a bunch of non-sense comments that offer any help in answering the question. Be patient, there are few members here who I know will be able to help you. Great piece of early aviation history!

Promoted to Lt. 12 (?) March 1908
Promoted Capt. 10 November 1910

Assigned to Escadre 12 on 9 August 1918

Other assignments mentioned are to Dijon, Chateauroux and Voves.

The important point is that he is one of first the pioneers of French military aviation of the 1910s and that he has obtained his pilot brevet on 2 may 1911.He was 7 th rank to obtain aviation military brevet (the first was Commandant Tricornot de rose)
He spent his entire career at the Staff of the Aviation and had no service "active"
in 14-18 (he was 35 old in 1914)
He was Officier de la Legion d'Honneur
He died October 31, 1925

I was not expecting to receive this level of help and I am extremely grateful to you.

I originally posted the scans for general interest not thinking that anyone would be able to add much to what was shown in the document. How wrong I was.

I admit that my second post did display a note of 'disappointment' at having been overshadowed by the attention Action Man commanded. However, I now feel that if he has read the content of this post then he would now be feeling rather beaten!

Joking aside, thank you once again for all your help and for the time taken to provide the information.
