Hello welcome to the forum! I like a good challenge but this one nearly has me stumped. To me it more closely resembles a special forces insignia than a aviation unit. From what I see it has a FS style fighting knife with wings that look more commonly associated with airborne, a rotary style cog and in the interior what appears to be a grenadier symbol? Alot to decipher. Any how I'm giving the thread a bump with hopes someone else can provide a definitive answer as I am curious now too! Best of luck. Enjoy your stay here and best regards.

I've check an insignia book of mine but the US section didn't show it, could it be South Vietnamese?
I was wondering about Australia and or other allies? The SAS insignia has some similarities. But again just reaching? Best regards.

Hello, thank you for your welcom and the answers.
I may have other clues :
- I recovered this badge with patches of the 82nd airborne, as well as the TONKIN GULF YACHT CLUB (7th fleet).
- the grenadier symbol resembles the boat of the 7th fleet, represented on the patch of the TONKIN GULF YACHT CLUB!
That's interesting when I initially saw your patch the wing style and shape reminded me so much of the one used for the 173 Airborne. The boat could be symbolic of one the standard modes of combat insertion, as alot of the us forces missions we're conducted from amphibious landing craft via waterways (in addition to helicopters of course) but that just me thinking out loud. I ll keep digging. BTW I love the two additional insignia pics esp the 82nd theater made really cool.

Wonderful ! Thank a lot !
But, I'm not american, and I don't know vietnam war very well ...
SVN means "South Viet Nam" isn't it ?
So this patch was worn by an american soldier, or a SVN soldier ?
Thank a lot for your precious answer !
Best regards.

Yes I do believe SVN is south Vietnam. And I think it's safe to say that is who would of worn it. So if I'm guessing right it's SVN special operations transport?
Best regards.
