Interesting USAAF A-10 Flying helmet with Luftwaffe marking

I recently bought this USAAF A-10 (or possibly A-10A) summer flying helmet. There is no label inside it, although it is stamped '1941'. It also has another stamp which is over the top of the circular USAAF stamp on the inside of the helmet! I believe this is some spurious made up 'German' stamp (not least because the swastika is facing the wrong way!!!), however, just to be on the safe side I have posted it just in case anybody recognises it.
It is also interesting to note that the raised pattern / serial numbers on the ear cups have been cut off.

What a shame someone has done that. The stamp is bogus as you thought.

I'm not too bothered, it's on the inside and it only cost £16.

The raised lettering on the rubber ear cups used to read 'FRONT',
for makers to sew them in correctly I suppose.

The obscured AAF logo is the only original marking. It has been
poorly altered to try and fool people, but at 16 Pounds
- about $25 - not a bad price, and still a nice
piece for display.........!

Such a pitty someone did that, I saw it for sale but the dodgy markings put me off. I must say it looks in much better condition in your photos than it did in the sellers photos. Well done £16 was a good price.

They were very poor blurry photos's but I took an 'educated' gamble, I think it paid off! It goes very nicely with the USAAF summer flying suit I have.
