Was in Sant 'Oreste and visited bunker Soratte (on Mt. Soratte).
Huge facility built by the Italians then used by the Germans in WW2, then again by the Italians after the war. The local civic group is getting it into shape and keeps many items for occasional display (saw things like a German 20mm AA cannon, a empty Sherman firefly shell from local action, a pair of Panther road wheels, German Pak 40 anti-tank cannon). The celebrate(?) the pounding the US airforce gave the mountain when the Germans stationed themselves there each year on the anniversary. They are just getting going (it was a NATO site for a while afterwards it seemed, so it is now just passing back to the community). Anyway, a few photos for you to enjoy. Worth a stop if you are in the area.
