    Default Rare piece of history!

    Hello dear forum members.

A lot of the time we see the typical German stuff like heer daggers, m40 helmets, ss caps and so on...
nothing wrong with thoose items:-) dont get me wrong, love thoose Things:-)

I wanted to share with you a item and a story to go with it...
an object from my Collection that you do not see everyday.

Many years ago my wife and i went to a flea market close to where we lived at that time. Nothing of interest there,
but leaving one of the stands, an old man asked me if there where nothing of interest in his items...
i walked of saying" maybe if you have anything ww2 related that could be of interest"
he then came up to me and said, that he perhaps had something back home i could be interested in...
he got my number and said he would call me..

I forgot about it Again, but two days later he called me on the phone and said he´d found the item, and if i wanted to come to his house and look at it to see if it was of any interest to me.

He lived only a 10 minute walk from where i lived, so my wife and i walked to his house.
We was invited in and he then showed me the item, and i had never seen something like that before...
He then told me from where he had it.
After the war in 1946 a Danish ss soldier who escaped to Hungary after the war..then later on on to Denmark
came to live in the old mans house, where the old man rented rooms out.
He stayed 8 months in the old mans house, and when he left he gave the old man as a thank you gift a letter opener..
The old man didnt like it much and put it in a drawer where it sat till i was presented to it.

I bought it rather cheaply and thought it was a funny item with a good story to it..
I put it in my Collection in a montre alongside other german stuff without knowing what it was.

Then some years passed and one day a Fellow collector friend saw it and said that he had seen one of thoose before
at another collectors house. He gave me his phone nr and i called the man.
He could tell me a story behind the letter openers.

The Danish nazi party called DNSAP lead by Danish nazi Frits Clausen, he had 5-10 of these letter openers made as presents to some of the high ranking members of the Danish nazi party.

Then a search started to learn more.. Know we knew that i have one, the Fellow collector have one, and one was sold in auction some years earlier in Denmark without diclosure on what it went for or to whom..

Mine of the 3 knowing pieces to exist is the only one with an inscription on the back.

It is made of solid brass and measures 22 cm in length..
The 3 logos front side from top to bottom is"

1.DNSAP logo ( The Danish nazi party )

    2.The Danish SA logo/runes

3.NSU logo ( National socialistisk ungdom )= The Danish hitler-jugend.

On top we have Heimdal with his horn.
Heimdal is one of the most mysterious gods in the Nordic mythology, meant to be son of Odin and the gods watchman.

On the backside it reads" AVO "
I have been through every register of the Danish members in the nazi party, but never found a person where thoose initials match...
It could also be an organization?

And the name of the ss soldier who gave it to the man from where i have it, used a fictive name i found out later..
    So no help there..

But anyway just wanted to share this story and the letter opener with you all.
I hope you will enjoy the not every day Pictures of a fine piece of history.

    Comments and input very welcome.

    Best regards,
    Lt. Col
    Ullergaard.

Very cool piece. With a great mysterious history to it.

I think many of us have those mystery pieces in our collection. They are quiet fun to own! I think I'm going to start a thread on "mystery items".
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

Heimdal blew in the horn "Gjallarhorn" only once, that would be the day when the Ragnarok (the end of the world) would start and the army of the dead would rise and attack the Gods.

The opener is guaranteed interesting for any Danish collector of wss history.

    Thanks for sharing
