Interesting, well maybe they had supply problems, and needed to make smaller insignia because of this.
There is no way to tell for sure, but i do not believe they would have made the insignia smaller on random.

Think that it will stay a question....
Here another uniform, I combined 2 uniforms from my collection to one (for the picture).
it's a Don cossack from the 5. Don Kosaken Regiment.
The setup ;
- Don cossack trousers
- Cossacks Baschlyk
- Converted Dutch jacket
- Kubanka
- Shashka
- K98k
- and of course his horse !!
Frei- you almost made me spill my Sunday Beer. That is a absolutely stunning display. And this jacket has the rare collartabs attached as well. You even has his Horse!!!! Wonderful.
This is pure Museums quality, thank you so much for showing this to us.
I would love to see some closeups of that model of DON shield and collartabs. (and the Kubanka of cource) Where did you find the Bashlyk Sir- they are not easy to find these days.
Did you find this jacket with collartabs and shield attached?
Are you sure your don badge are genuine frei?
Thanks, thanks....
I already noticed that I took items from 2 different uniform for this setup.
To be honest, the collartabs are not on the jacket. I just put them on for the picture.
On the following pictures you can see that the jacket had once collartabs, as far as I know are my collartabs original, but it is hard to say, you almost never see them.
Other collectors are also convinced that it are originals.
They are not made of cotton/wool but from board. Will make some pictures of them.
The Bashlyk is from my cossack uniform with tcherkeska. Found it several years ago, it is original but how old it is, is hard to say.
It could be it had Heer collartabs attached and the soldier removed them awaiting the cossack tabs. Who knows..
It is still a beautiful display, with or without collartabs.
This Terek has also the Wehrmacht collartabs. So to find a Volunteer jacket with the rare cossack tabs is very difficult to find.
