Setup made from a eastern volunteer with a russian helmet !
Example fot the setup is the original photo below.
Minor differences such as the jacket in the setup has no shoulder boards and no breasteagle. I believe that the russian volunteer on the original photo has also a converted Dutch jacket (cuffs and the buttons on front off the jacket). In the setup he has a standard red army trousers and belt. On his shoulder he has a bag with contents for the DP28 gun.

Here are some other pictures off russian volunteers.
On these pictures they seem to have the standard red army uniforms and helmets.
Found these not long ago on the internet.
Collecting eastern volunteers means that almost all is possible.
Think that you have seen it all and there is some new information !

You are correct. Expect anything, and any exotic combination.

There are alot of interesting informasjon to be learned from such photos like this, it makes me wonder what else that can be found on a old attic or in a old basement.

This time a question, maybe someone around here know's why.
I ask this question also on another forum but till now nobody has an answer.
Why do the ''Ostbatalionen'' soldiers which do carry a maxim or DP28 machinegun have a english webbing belt ?
On every picture of soldiers with a webbing belt you can't find anything heavy that could explain why they have this belt.

It could be these belts was more comfortable when moving around with a heavy machinegun.?! Or maybe the Magazine pouches were easier to attach to an english webb belt?

I can not give any 100% answer, only my thoughts around this.

That of course is a possibility, but then why not a standard belt like the germans, I mean they where in the German army.

That was also my idea, but then why is there never anything attached to the belt. I only found one picture where it looks like they attached a ''zeltbahn'' to it.

Then my thoughts go back to maybe they decided to use the equipment that were captured in dunkirk. The english left a lot of stuff when they had to flee. So maybe it is so easy that the second line soldiers not only were given reissued dutch tunics, but also all other equipment that were more or less the same- no matter what nationality.?!

So until the factories could supply the volunteers with WH equipment, they had to use whatever avaliable for them...?!

You can be right the answer must be something like that !

Thinks that they must have thought that a machinegunner and his helper don't have a rifle so why they need then ammo pouches. These pouches fit on a standard WH belt and I believe not on an english webbing belt. Maybe due shortages are these volunteers (MG and mortar crew) equiped with webbing belts.
