Another late war piece. Top shelf helmet found in Germany. Darker, more neutral color, removed rear loop and factory applied civil defense style liner and late war alu chinstrap buckle.
Interestingly liner cord is modified (loosened) probably to adjust the helmet's size to a larger head.

Nice 35M combat helmet in good condition.
MÁVAG 66. Studded (and not sewn) postwar strap and non standard alu D-rings (from an alu officer helmet) indicate this helmet is put together with a 47M 'Tildy' chinstrap.

A rare bird from my collection and of course a favorite helmet too. Hungarian ww2 medic or red cross helmet , attic found in Budapest. MÁVAG 66 civil defense 'A' type helmet in standard late war blue-grey color, liner leather is missing and strap is incomplete. Painted red cross on the front in a white area. Looks ww2 period but also could be used during the 1956 uprising or as some kind of civil defense-training equipment in the 60's. Whatever it is looks cool..

Interesting hungarian camo helmet with original wire attachment in air vent for fixing foliage (pine and oak). GY66 helmet overpainted in deep grass green (reissue or camo?). Also has a fantastic character, strong enough to keep this one in a prominent position.

MÁVAG 62 hungarian 35M army helmet found in this untouched ww2 condition in an old house.
Unique example because of the period replaced liner rivets which had been camo painted in textured dark grey. Very probably soldier took these rivets out from another helmet which had camo overpaint and applied into his. Helmet is named and belonged to a medic soldier whose name, rank, pictures and soldbuch with his identical signature was researched recently.

    MÁVAG 64 pair.
Very interesting examples. The first one was postwar reissued in Czechoslovakia, maybe by fire service (drilled holes was made around the helmet appron for somekind of ridge and was overpainted in black but original ww2 hungarian field green color was left intact fortunetly) but 4 "MJ" initials are clearly visible scratched in by the hungarian ww2 soldier.
The second one is also a non-standard example. M27 hungarian liner system was period replaced with an M17 type and wwI style rivets were added. Helmet bears 3 different layers of period applied paint. Factory green, light green overpaint and dark grey-green camo.

    Hello

I have this Hungarian M38 helmet shell, it is from Finland.

    - what factory made this shell, the stamp is a bit blurry?
    - what kind of liner would fit this shell? any repros out there?
    - is the finish original or has the shell been repainted?

    Hi!

You have an original ww2 period hungarian made but finnish issued helmet shell. DM 62 means that this helmet was produced in Budapest by MÁVAG factory (Magyar Állami Vas-, Acél- és Gépgyár). In Hungary this modell was regularized as 35M (and not M35 because of Hungarian language) and examples were stamped MÁVAG 62, 64, 66, 68 or GY 64, 66, 68. Only MÁVAG produced size 62 helmets anyway. Helmets for Finnland were marked as DM 62, 64, 66, 68 (Datieren MÁVAG) and DR 64, 66, 68 (Datieren Rába) without any national marking so the use of royal hungarian coat of arms was not allowed on these helmets though the unique rear loop was yet applied despite the government's efforts to conceal the origin of the 75.000 helmets. In Finnland this model was issued as M38 however it was used in the continuation war and not in the winter war. Liner system basically is the standard M27 type hungarian modell (metal band with 3 leather pads, D-rings with chinstrap) but in Finnland these hungarian helmets were heavily modified, overpainted, relined, repaired and reissued so helmet liners and paint are quite chaotic but generally the original ww2 color is rather ike the german early applegreen (darker and greyer compared to the hungarian field green-brown) and postwar paint is referred as dark matte grey.
