A chance meeting with a friendly farmer recently got me permission to search a small wooded area on a former Norfolk B-24 base ... There were lots of spent .50 cal casings (obviously!) but also some rather nice discoveries ...

First picture shows a nice aluminium cover stencilled 'Starter release' ... I'm 100% sure that this is from a Pratt & Whitney engine ... but cannot find a picture to prove it ... can anyone help?

Second picture shows my favourite find ... a walk-around oxygen bottle ...

Finally, some parachute harness buckles .... in fairly good stable condition

Unfortunately the rest of the site was cultivated and I shall have to wait until the harvest before I can get onto it ... humph!

Thanks for the reply Andy .... lots of .50 cal .... but no Old Spice
Believe it or not, the oxygen bottle was practically a surface find ...

Of course, in a month or so certain sites will become available which will provide hours and hours of search time ... the harvest is getting very very close ...

First picture is an airframe part, not a powerplant part.

    Thanks RickWG,

Apologies for being imprecise ... no not part of the actual engine ... but still from somewhere in the vicinity of the engine nacelle ....

Getting a view of the location of the starter release hatch is going to be a pain in the proverbial, as I believe they are on the upper surface of the nacelles, way out of camera view.

However, the shape seems to match the light-coloured panels in THIS PHOTO

    All the best,
    PB

Hi Simon,If it is Liberator,it should have the number
32- followed by the part number.
    Cheers Mike

    Thanks Paul & Versuch,

the photo does seem to show similar sized panels ... I'm also sure that on my last visit to Duxford I saw the same hatch on their B-24 ... I'll also check for any part numbers and let you know ...

    Thanks again.

Nice finds, I am still amazed at what is being found on a regular basis on former UK Airfields, the condition of those items is superb.
