Well said DioMac !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well said DioMac !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those "Japs" were well trained specialists, no different to the Australian Z Special Unit operatives (of which my Australian Grandfather-in-law was one) who successfully attacked Singapore Harbour under Japanese occupation on two occasions . Unlike the Japanese my German Father was allowed to immigrate to Australia where , as an Australian born to a German Father and an Australian Mother, I was subjected to the same ignorant racism. As an ex-Australian serviceman myself I know for a fact that we acknowledge, respect and pay tribute to servicemen regardless of Nationality.
I'm sure it is true,
'The remains of a Japanese mini-submarine that participated in the Dec. 7, 1941, attack on Pearl Harbor have been discovered, researchers are to report today, offering strong evidence that the sub fired its torpedoes at Battleship Row.
That could settle a long-standing argument among historians.
Five mini-subs were to participate in the strike, but four were scuttled, destroyed or run aground without being a factor in the attack. The fate of the fifth has remained a mystery. But a variety of new evidence suggests that the fifth fired its two 800-pound torpedoes, most likely at the battleships West Virginia and Oklahoma, capsizing the latter. A day later, researchers think, the mini-sub's crew scuttled it in nearby West Loch'
I think there is one of the captured examples on display somewhere on the island.
That the subs not only managed to get inside the harbour, but that that such a relatively humble vessel succesfully managedd to actually sink a much larger vessel such as a battleship is food for thought IMO.
Indeed greimers!
I don't want to make an issue of this, but I've observed that the way this forum deals with sometimes offensive issues of the past is first class, and that ignorance has absolutely no place here. By collecting, we have a duty to preserve and remember what we collect, but not carry whatever grievances etc. of the past with it.
Every person visiting should not feel offended in any way based on his or her ancestry.
Sorry . dident no that term was wrong in this subject . im not that type of person in any way. but dont go down that path of calling or implying that i am a ignorant person. i am a first generation australian too,
