Further research into the 2/6th Armour has confirmed the presence of VX51548 A W Muhlhan.

The Regt. apparently was based on the Tablelands in 1944 before serving overseas in Matildas before returning the Tablelands and training in Grants ~

I assume an liaison officer's task would be quite the hand full ~

SNAGS TRACK, TARAKAN. 1945-05-20. ONE OF THE 14 TROOP MATILDA MK II TANKS OF 2/9 ARMOURED REGIMENT FIRING ITS THREE INCH (??) HOWITZER AT A JAPANESE PILLBOX FORWARD OF C COMPANY 2/23 INFANTRY BATTALION POSITIONS ON THE ELBOW. THE FIRE OF THIS HOWITZER IS DIRECTED BY PHONE REPORTS FROM THE FORWARD TROOPS.

The Captain married during the war (Trove) and passed away in 1994 in Melbourne (Springvale Necropolis).
I think he may have surviving family in Melbourne (White Pages, -Brighton).

I did a NLA search but found zip ~ Plus I even joined Trove ~

I searched just the newspaper section of Trove by his surname, then narrowed the search parameters down to Victoria, Family Notices, and Decade.

Gets interesting now ~ so as to demonstrate that I am not totally inept searching government files ~ Seems our Captain enlisted in June 1939 ~ then re-enlisted officially in 1941 ~ (??)

No 2AIF in Jun 1939-would have been a Militia or Regular cadre-would have enlisted for external service with a new service number in 1941.
